The Farm Midwifery Center is now offering a Midwife's Assistant Program.
We offer a series of three workshops; Level I, Level II, and Level III.
They are designed to teach you how to become a midwife's assistant and to give you a solid skills foundation on your path to becoming a midwife. We are committed to teaching midwifery within a spiritual context and creating a supportive sisterhood.

Level I Workshop includes classes in:
* History of midwifery and the Farm Midwifery Center
* Prenatal nutrition with emphasis on a vegetarian diet
* Physical assessment and client history
* Basic physical assessment skills used in prenatal examination
* Basic lab skills used for prenatal examination
* Basic sterile technique
* Charting and record keeping
* Childbirth education
* Introduction to assisting with labor and delivery
* Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, labor and delivery
* Basic postpartum care skills for the newborn and mother
Level II includes classes in:
* Oxygen set up and use
* Neonatal Resuscitation (you will earn the NRP Certificate)
* Birth kit supplies, set up, use and cleanup
* Introduction to breast and pelvic exam, bimanual exams, speculum exam and pap smear skills
* Pelvimetry
* HIV/AIDS and the midwife, and OSHA standards
* Newborn exam and assessment; recognizing problems of the newborn
* The art of communication, psychology of pregnancy and birth
Level III
This week we will address complications of pregnancy, labor, birth and the postpartum period and the midwife assistant's roll. We will also address breech and twin deliveries.
