Midwifery 2000: Midwifery into the future

Midwifery in the United States is experiencing rapid change. We are leaving an era where knowledge about this topic was misrepresented to the general public. Lies, distortion and negative propaganda were espoused by those who had no real facts. The "midwife problem" was a political weapon to mask the real socioeconomic problems that society created. Today, midwives are speaking for themselves. With the help of researchers from other disciplines, we are honoring our past and the dedicated women who went before us, and we are also preparing for the future. Midwifery is destined to continue providing a positive low-tech solution to today's maternity problems and will lead the way into the 21st century.

About Us

Marilyn Greene is a practicing midwife in Middle Tennessee. She has been involved in home and birth center births for twenty eight years. She is the former First Vice President for the Midwives' Alliance of North America. She is Past President of her state organization, the Tennessee Midwives' Association. Currently working on her Doctor of Arts (DA) degree in physical and health education, she has served as adjunct faculty at Middle Tennessee State University. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and Lifestyle and Weight management consultant. Her interest in the field of wellness is why she is expanding the content of this web site. Marilyn is married to Gerry "Krash" Campbell and has four children (Barbara, Sarah, Zechariah, and Ezekiel).

I am Gerry, her loving and devoted husband. I spend my days trying to keep sanity in a hectic midwife's life. I am her typist, web designer, cook, life organizer and a sympathetic ear after a hard birth. If other midwives' husbands feel this way, they can e-mail me, and we can discuss the perils and problems associated with being a midwifery widower or just talk about golf and life.
